Guyana to host 400 delegates for Aviation meeting in November

– Meeting of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will be hosted from November 21-23

– Third Meeting of African States and the Diaspora will be hosted as part of the event

– National Committee tasked with finalising plans for meeting

Guyana will host over 400 delegates from approximately 192 countries for the meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) on air transport.

The meeting is being hosted from November 21 – 23 at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) by ICAO, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the African Union, under the theme “Promoting connectivity for sustainable transport development.”

This was disclosed by Minister of State, Joseph Harmon during a post-Cabinet press conference. He explained the meeting will focus on harmonising the regulatory framework for regional air transport, air cargo liberalisation, as well as air transport and tourism.

Air transport policies and regulations, according to ICAO, should aim to facilitate transformation and new technologies.

The Third Meeting of African States and the Diaspora will also be held as part of this event. This will focus on tourism promotion and air links between African States and the diaspora, including those in the Caribbean. The meeting, organisation added, will result in the establishment of a collaborative mechanism between the African Union and the Caribbean to ensure implementation of plan of actions and achievements of set objectives, targets and timelines.

The establishment of a financial framework for aviation development in the African and Caribbean Regions to be integrated into the African Union and Caribbean development plans is another objective.

A National Committee under the stewardship of Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Colonel Egbert Field is finalising plans for the meeting.
