Guyana to participate in fiscal affairs meeting in Japan

Georgetown GINA, June 30, 2016

Deanah Matthias, Deputy Commissioner, Inland Revenue – Tax Operations & Services, Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), will be representing Guyana at a special meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Committee on Fiscal Affairs on June 30 and July 1, 2016, in Kyoto Japan.

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, at a post-Cabinet media briefing today at the Ministry of the Presidency, said that Cabinet has approved Guyana’s participation in this very important meeting which deals with cooperation and development to combat tax evasion and tax avoidance.

The two-day meeting will mark a new era in international tax policymaking. Several countries representing varying levels of development will come together for the first time with OECD members and G20 countries which is made up  of the finance ministers and central bank governors of 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

The meeting will seek to address Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) on an equal footing in the OECD’s Committee on Fiscal Affairs.

By participating in the decision-making as well as the technical working groups, these countries and jurisdictions will have a direct influence in shaping the international tax rules.
