Guyana to participate in international petroleum course – PAHO/WHO study tour and Islamic Conference on Childhood

Approval was granted by the Cabinet for Guyana to participate in the National Management of Petroleum Resources course organised by world-recognised Norwegian training institute, Petrad.

Minister of State Joseph Harmon.

State Minister, Joseph Harmon, who made the recent disclosure, said that the course will be held in Stavanger, Norway from February 26 to March 9, 2018, and will provide expert tuition in areas relevant to Guyana’s transition to a Petroleum producing country.

Petrad was founded in 1990 and provides courses and other forms of capacity building for the petroleum sector internationally.

Management of natural resources and petroleum field life cycles, governance, policy and regulation of resource-based industries, organisation and capacity building are areas to be dealt with.

Legal Officer of Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), Joanna Homer and Director of Budget, Ministry of Finance, Sonya Roopnauth are attending the course.

Guyana’s participation in the international course comes on the heels of the successful hosting of the inaugural Guyana International Petroleum Summit and Exhibition (GIPEX).

Guyana will benefit too from participation in a study tour to the Pan American Health Organisation/World Health Organisation (PAHO/WHO) office in Belize for senior personnel of the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) from February 12 to 16, 2018.

The study tour deals with the organisation of the health sector and places emphasis on the study of human resources for health procurement and the PAHO Strategic Fund.

It is also intended to build the capacity of the personnel in the area of procurement and information systems.

Five senior personnel from the Ministry are participating in the study tour.

Attendance at the Fifth Islamic Conference of Ministers in Charge of Childhood to be held in Rabat, Morocco from February 21- 22, 2018 will provide Guyana with the opportunity for strengthening the social development goals and understanding development aims.

The conference is organised by the Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation and Guyana’s representative is Yeaswantie Beekhoo, Psychologist, Ministry of Social Protection.
