Guyana’s welfare and future, #1 concern – PM Nagamootoo

Whoever holds the reins of governance in Guyana must do so with national unity in mind. This challenge from the Hon. Moses Nagamootoo, Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

Responding to questions about elections and governance from Mark Benschop on his Straight Up Live Radio Programme (107.1fm), on Monday evening, the Prime Minister stated that the recent election is “an opportunity to unite our people, open the door to dialogue and negotiation.”

An opportunity, he noted that was not grasped in the past adding that it is important that parties see the country’s future as one.

“Guyana has experienced many lean years, but we don’t have to go back.” PM Nagamootoo stated, adding that the country belongs to every Guyanese.

“No group is more important than the other, and we are all entitled to share in both the good times and bad times.” PM Nagamootoo reminded the nation.

He said no one party cannot be blamed for the ills of the country, nor one party to be credited with the successes, as all have contributed to the improvement of the national welfare.

“All parties have struggled for the wellbeing of the working people, for improvement of the private investors, the local entrepreneurs, to define our country in the world as a democratic country.”

In the meantime, responding to his soon departure from his current Prime Ministerial post, Mr. Nagamootoo said he has not dwelled on it much.

“I believe our concern should be for the welfare of Guyana and the future of Guyana, that “we” can have a government that can govern in the interest of all peoples.”

The Prime Minister said he has played enough roles in public office in the last decades, and all he wants to do now is to contribute to the healing of the nation, after this current electoral process.

A national recount of ballots of the March 2^nd 2020, General and Regional Elections is currently taking place.
