GUYOIL launches Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel

The Guyana Oil Company Limited (GUYOIL) has made significant strides in support of the Green Initiative with the introduction of its environmentally friendly, Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Product. The company last week officially launched the sale of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel at its Regent Street Service Station in the presence of members of the business community and representatives from Suriname oil giant, Statsolie.

The Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel contains only 0.0003% sulfur and is beneficial in a number of ways. With respect to the environment, ULSD eliminates exhaust odour, reduces black smoke and emissions. Additionally, owners of diesel vehicles who use ULSD will experience better engine performance, decreased engine corrosion and maintenance, and eliminates exhaust blockage.

Diesel fuel in general produces many harmful emissions when it is burned, and diesel fueled vehicles are major sources of harmful pollutants such as ground level ozone and particulate matter. To address this problem Environmental Protection Agencies around the world have established standards for the sulfur content of diesel fuel.

Further, vehicles manufactured after the year 2006 are designed to operate only with ULSD fuel. Using ULSD fuel can reduce vehicle particulate emissions by up to 90% and also helps to reduce emissions in older engines. Regionally, both Suriname and Barbados are using ULSD exclusively. With the recent passage of the Customs Amendment Act featuring the limitation on the importation of vehicles older than 8yrs, the introduction of this product to Guyana is both timely and necessary.

The product has been endorsed by the Guyana Energy Agency, Legendary racer Mr. Andrew King and Massy Automotives.
