GuyTIE postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic

GEORGETOWN, Guyana — April 17, 2020 — The second Guyana Trade and Investment Exhibition (GuyTIE) scheduled for May, 2020 has been postponed until further notice.

GuyTIE Coordinator, Ms. Tameca Sukhdeo-Singh explained that the Coordinating Committee made the decision to postpone the event in an effort to protect the health and safety of organisers, exhibitors and patrons, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

While pointing out that concerns about COVID-19 have also forced many countries and companies to cancel or postpone similar exhibitions, she assured that the Committee will continue to monitor the situation closely and will announce a new date as soon as the world gains more control over the spread of the highly contagious COVID-19 disease.

“GuyTIE involves a large gathering of exhibitors in one location and features multiple business-to-business meetings with persons in close contact.  As such, the Committee saw it fit to postpone the event.  This is in keeping with the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) and Guyana’s Ministry of Public Health’s advice against gathering in large groups during the pandemic,” Ms. Sukhdeo-Singh explained.

The Committee also considered the impact of the temporary hold on international flights to and from Guyana, especially with regard to overseas-based participants, she added.

On behalf of the Coordinating Committee, Ms. Sukhdeo-Singh gave the firm assurance that the team will continue to work assiduously to promote the GuyTIE exposition worldwide among investors and business owners.

She said, “At this time we would like to thank our exhibitors and supporters. Even though we will not be able to execute the event in the planned  time frame, we are confident that we will overcome this challenge and bring to you an event that lives up to our aspirations as one of the premier trade events in the region”.
