GWI customers encouraged to take advantage of promotion – clear outstanding debt

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, May 9, 2018

As the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) ‘Sweet 16’ promotion continues, the utility company is encouraging those customers with outstanding debts to use this period to clear their balances.

Managing Director of GWI, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles.

“It’s an opportunity for us to put things right and encourage people to pay what you owe, so, we’re giving back also, as people pay us we are going to give back,” Dr. Richard Van West-Charles said.

The Managing Director was speaking at the agency’s 16th anniversary commemoration on May 4. He reminded customers, as GWI focused on its accounts, they should not allow their debt to roll over into 2019.

“Going forward, GWI will be very proactive. If you owed us [before] 2015 and you have not paid it off by October 2018; the services will be removed.”

Customers who are disconnected, going forward, will be required to re-establish the service as a new customer.

“We cannot be carrying over debt because many customers come and present their debt of 200,000 and 300,000 and we have to find ways and means of dealing with that but we want to be within the law,” Van West-Charles said. “So, we have a new approach of encouraging and working with customers, so you will be seeing this promotional approach as we go forward of trying to encourage customers to pay their debt across the country.”

GWI’s ongoing ‘Sweet 16’ promotion entitles customers, clearing at least $5000 in outstanding balances, an opportunity to win tickets to various Guyana Carnival events which are being held between May 18 and 27. Drawings will take place every Monday until May 23.
