Housing expansion key to higher living standards, modern Guyana – Min Benn

As Guyana continues to experience unprecedented development across the country, Minister within the Ministry of Housing Vanessa Benn is encouraging Guyanese to recognise that they have the greatest opportunity now to experience improved living standards in a modern nation.

During a recent broadcast on the ministry’s Facebook page, Minister Benn affirmed that Guyana is in the most exciting and transformative period in its history, particularly in housing and land allocation.

She emphasised that the expansion of the housing sector is not only about infrastructure but is also vital for realising the personal and collective aspirations of all citizens.

“Our individual and joint efforts and commitment are required to convert our dreams and aspirations into reality and achievement,” Minister Benn stated.

She noted that this development aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, with a focus on affordable housing, safe transportation, and reduced environmental impact.

Additionally, Minister Benn elaborated on the financial and economic empowerment of citizens
through the government’s National Financial Inclusion Strategy.

This strategy deepens the understanding of basic financial and investment concepts, banking, and financial services. It has enabled working-class citizens to open bank accounts free of hassle.

It has also unlocked greater opportunities for income generation through job creation, increased wages, pensions, and public assistance, targeted cash transfers, and tax reductions for a wide range of goods and services.

The minister also pointed to the expansion of services to the hinterland and remote communities through agent banking networks, ensuring that no Guyanese is left behind.

“Hinterland and remote communities will be served…thereby ensuring national coverage and enabling greater access to these services,”  Minister Benn noted.

She encouraged all Guyanese to be informed and engaged with the government’s plans for world-class healthcare, modernised infrastructure and the improvements in access to water and sanitation services.
