Human Services Ministry to host 2-day exhibition with WE LIFT campaign

The Arthur Chung Convention Centre will be transformed into a sea of purple over the week-end – March 6 and 7 – as the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security (MoHSSS) hosts an exhibition in recognition of women’s empowerment and resilience.

To this end, the Ministry will be launching the WE LIFT – “Women’s Entrepreneurs: We lead, we innovate, we flourish together” campaign to highlight women’s successes in various industries including business, arts and craft, beauty and wellness and health.

The 2- day signature event is part of a series of activities planned for the entire month of March as Guyana gets ready to celebrate International Women’s Day, which will be observed on March 8 under the campaign theme, “Choose to Challenge.”

Hon Dr. Vindhya Persaud stated that the WE LIFT event symbolizes the Ministry’s commitment to empower women, especially those who survived violent situations, to be equipped with knowledge and skills that would enable them to be financially independent.

The women-centric event will feature new women- owned businesses, budding artists, established businesses promoting additional goods and services, and the Ministry’s upcoming programmes to assist women.

While International Women’s Day is observed on March 8th, the Ministry has dedicated the month of March to celebrating women’s achievements and hosting a number of inspiring and exciting programmes which will be announced by Hon Persaud at the exhibition’s opening at 15:00h on March 6.

The Ministry is therefore inviting members of the public to the trendy and exciting two-day event that brings together a number of stakeholders, Embassies, women entrepreneurs and the Guyanese public to champion several women centric causes.

“Enjoy the interactive sessions hosted by various agencies and embassies and a taste of their national dishes. Come and share various inspiring and empowering messages and be a part of the influential and powerful campaign to eradicate various social ills,” Minister Persaud encouraged.

Patrons will be able to enjoy various sessions, have make-up and skin care guidance, tap into beauty specialists, talk to counsellors, sign up for our skills training programs, receive samples and giveaways, shop and enjoy delicious foods and drinks.

“Take selfies and share your experiences with the world on our social media platform and our live stream. We are linking up to ensure that our message and our voices carry the weight required to resist violence, gender inequality and stereotyping,” Minister Persaud added.

Meanwhile, an innovative “an open mic” session that will allow persons to creatively express themselves throughout the two-day event.

Come one day or both days – Saturday from 3:00pm or Sunday from 11:30pm and let us celebrate our women!

The event is open to the public and admission is free. All COVID 19 guidelines will be followed, persons are advised to wear their masks on entry.
