Residents of Annai in Region Nine, Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo were informed of the many benefits and the critical role Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays in the agriculture sector.

The series of presentations and discussions held today at Bina Hill were part of the ongoing Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) ICT Roadshow.

Members of the audience were educated on the importance of e-Agriculture with regards to access to safe, affordable, healthy and nutritious local and regional food. They were shown how food and technology can work in sync for their survival. The participants were also encouraged to make use of the plethora of apps to test their soil and market their produce on both the local and international markets.

Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes reaffirmed the government’s thrust to push the use of ICT across Guyana. “We provided ICT hubs to enable the students to access the Internet to do their assignments. ICT can be used in health, education and agriculture – subsistence farming. ICT can also provide entrepreneurial activities.”
