India expresses interest in funding ‘green projects’

India has set itself to be one of Guyana’s partners in the fight against climate change. This assertion was, on Monday, made by His Excellency, Dr. K. J. Srinivasa, the country’s High Commissioner to Guyana following a courtesy call on Minister of Public Infrastructure, Hon. David Patterson.

In a press release, the Public Infrastructure Ministry said the High Commissioner had, “expressed interest in funding projects in Guyana related to solar and renewable energy” in addition to other climate change-related projects.

This commitment will enable Guyana in its realisation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal #7, which seeks to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

On the other hand, the ministry’s statement mentioned the diplomat’s support for creating scholastic opportunities through the provision of scholarships to Guyana.

His Excellency, President David Granger, accepted a letter of credence from High Commissioner Dr. K. J. Srinivasa on August 14.

At the ceremony, the diplomat said: “India is committed to Guyana’s overall development and India’s participation in the development process in the various sectors of Guyana’s economy would continue which would help in bringing the two countries closer.”
