Interfaith service launches National Co-op Week 2018

DPI, Guyana, Sunday, July 01, 2018

Prayers for cooperation, unity and blessings for the country marked the official launch of National Co-operative week 2018.

An inter-faith service hosted at the Ministry of Social Protection, this morning attracted a number of representatives and invitees from the various religious denominations.  Prayers from the Christian, Muslim, Hindu and Bahai faiths all called for citizens to cooperate and work together to make a positive change in the country and the lives of each other.

The service is a collaborative effort between Ministry of Social Protection’s Department of Co-operatives, the Guyana National Co-operative Union Limited and the Guyana Co-operative Credit Union League Limited.

Advisor Francis Carroll speaking on behalf of the Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Keith Scott, reiterated that the government’s goals can only be achieved through cooperation.

“Whatever we do, wherever we go, we need to always remember that we are always our brother’s keeper, and today, plans and programmes of the current administration most, if not all will only succeed if we approach them from the spirit of Cooperativism,” Carroll said.

The theme of this year’s national cooperative week 2018 is “Cooperatives: Sustainable Consumption and Production of Goods and Services“. It begins today July 1st and ends on Saturday, July 7.
