“Judge us on the merit of the Government” – PM Nagamootoo

DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, January 29, 2020

The Coalition Government has put the country on a trajectory of rapid development and to ensure it remains on this course, Prime Minister the Ho. Moses Nagamootoo told Essequibians, “In 33 days, Guyana will go to the poll, Guyana will have to make a critical decision to return the coalition to Government.”

The Prime Minister was at the time addressing a massive crowd assembled at Damon Square, Anna Regina. He told those gathered that Guyana’s rapidly growing economy would need “clean hands” to ensure the progress continues.

Citing a wide range of developments within the Pomeroon-Supenaam region the Prime Minister mentioned the billions of dollars were spent on upgrading sea defences in Essequibo and across Guyana to protect farmlands and rice fields and the livelihoods of those farmers.

“We have spent billions to renovate the Dawa pumps… to provide pumps at Lima and Three Sisters. To be able to provide irrigation for rice farmers. Essequibo is rice!” the Prime Minister declared.

He reminded when paddy bugs infested the rice fields it was the current administration that declared an emergency and put measures in place to address the situation.

“And we are pleased to say that last year Guyana recorded the second-highest paddy and rice production in five years. This is because we invested in the farmers,” he said.

Speaking on the distribution of public information and the freedom of the press, the Prime Minister pointed to the commissioning of Radio Essequibo 95.5FM earlier in the day. Communities such as Adventure, Akawini Mission, Bethany to Machabo, Kabakaburi and all the way up and down the Pomeroon River can now tune into Radio Essequibo to be informed about the actions being taken by the government and regional administration.

The launch of this seventh community radio station demonstrates this government’s commitment to close the communication gap between the coast and the hinterland and ensure all citizens have access to information.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo reiterated his call for persons to judge the government on their track record of transformation over the last four years. He underscored that with a Coalition Government returned to office “you will see unprecedented development.”
