Kitty Roundabout works progressing ahead of schedule

(March 23, 2018) The Kitty Roundabout project is 35 percent completed and is ahead of schedule for its June 2018 deadline.

This is according to Project Engineer, Mr. Sherod Parkinson, who said that the Ministry of Public Infrastructure and the contractor, S. Jagmohan, are taking all necessary steps to ensure that the project progresses smoothly.

Today, another phase of the project kicked off. This phase required the closure of sections of the roadway to facilitate works. Among the works currently underway are the construction of the circulatory lanes, truck apron, and central island.

Meanwhile, the Ministry is working along with the Guyana Police Force to minimise traffic disruptions. As a result, the following traffic road closures were undertaken:

Ø  Carifesta Avenue heading east

Ø  Kitty Public Road heading west to Carifesta Avenue

Ø  JB Singh Road heading north to Rupert Craig Highway

Drivers are advised to use the following roadways, which will be open to vehicular traffic during this time:

Ø  The Seawall road remains open

Ø  The Bypass road connecting JB Singh Road and Carifesta Avenue has been opened

Ø  The Bypass road connecting Kitty Public Road and Vlissengen Road has been opened

Furthermore, ccommuters heading north along JB Singh Road who are desirous of heading to the East Coast can detour at David Street.

This phase of works is expected to conclude in six to eight weeks.

The Ministry wishes to sincerely apologise for the inconveniences these closures will cause.

Works are in full swing at the Kitty Roundabout project.

Traffic is currently being diverted along the JB Singh Road as the Kitty Roundabout enters another phase towards its completion.
