Kwakwani ‘E’ Division youth group calls for more support

DPI, GUYANA, Monday, November 27, 2017

Detective from Crime Investigation Department (CID) of the ‘E’ Division, Esley Dejonge is calling for the assistance of the relevant stakeholders and community members to help support the pursuits of the Kwakwani police youth group.

Detective Esley Dejonge, Crime Investigation Department (CID), Kwakwani ‘E’ Division Police Station.

Detective Dejonge told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that since its establishment, two and a half years-ago, the youth group has garnered 35 active members. However, because of a lack of sufficient gear and equipment, some of the members have become reluctant to participate in the group’s activities, Dejonge explained.

“There is not sufficient equipment for the youths to utilise, so you will find that while some are able to participate in activities such as football or cricket, others have to be seated to wait their turn. This causes the youths to not want to participate,” the detective explained.

According to Detective Dejonge, the need for adequate equipment and gear is of vital importance for the continuation of the group and can be addressed through the assistance of the appropriate stakeholders.

Through the youth group, the young people of Kwakwani community are offered the opportunity to learn to knit, sew, arts and crafts and participate in various sporting activities.

The detective also called for the involvement of social workers and community members to play their part, through the provision of advice/mentoring and financial support among other areas.

He opined that their involvement will serve to be beneficial and in turn, assist the youth group to further develop.
