La Penitence residents urged to be wary of silly statements

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, March 21, 2019

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon urged residents in the North and East La Penitence area to not be influenced by silly statements that are being circulated by the opposition.

During a ministerial outreach on Wednesday afternoon in the area, the State Minister referenced the recent statements by the Opposition Leader and called on residents to be wary of them.

“These are all foolish gabs, and it is important that we as right-thinking citizens understand that these things cannot and will not happen,” Minister Harmon stressed, urging them not to be intimidated “by language that seems to evoke unnecessary ire and the emotions of people.”

Minister Harmon deemed the utterance of such statements unnecessary it seeks to create division among the people of Guyana.

Minister within the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs, Valerie Garrido-Lowe, who accompanied the State Minister, echoed his sentiments and noted that the Coalition Government is working as a united front.

“As a government, we demonstrate unity to this nation because we are working together at the highest level so when we say that with unity we can build, and divided you fall, we understand that fully,” she said.

Both Ministers were part of a larger team that conducted outreaches in all fifteen constituencies of Georgetown. Over the past few weeks, government officials have been conducting fan out exercises across the country to build better relationships with the people.
