“Lands for Bartica Housing Development” – Min. Ronald Bulkan

–  Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission to identify the available lands

– Land space to be developed closer to the centre of the township

– CH&PA aiming to acquire 500 acres of land

– New Housing Development to address Bartica’s growing population

DPI, Guyana, Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan seized the opportunity to assure Barticans that works are in the pipeline for the development of a new Housing Scheme. The Minister explained that the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has approached the Guyana Lands and Survey Commission (GLSC) requesting lands for housing developments.

“There’s a challenge relating to housing in Bartica, in that the CH&PA does not have any land in Bartica. There are State lands here; just not belonging to the CH&PA, so we are in discussions with the Guyana Lands and Surveys for allocation of these State lands. So that process is ongoing… to allow for additional housing developments,” the Minister explained.

The Communities Minister raised the matter at the ninth “Government Comes to you,” outreach held in Bartica, Region Seven, where persons turned out in their numbers to have several housing-related issues addressed. The exercise ran from June 18-19.

CH&PA’s Chief Executive Officer, Lelon Saul, said the main priority is to acquire more than 500 acres of land to develop a new housing scheme since there is a huge demand for low and middle-income house lots in the township.

“It is necessary that agencies owning State lands in Bartica understand the need for some of the lands to be allocated for housing, as the township’s population is quickly growing with continuous development,” he stressed.

Many of the housing issues raised were addressed on the spot at the outreach.

Minister with responsibility for Housing, Annette Ferguson was also in attendance at the exercise and engaged with those persons gathered at the CH&PA’s booth.

The “Government Comes to you,” initiative has seen Ministers of the government, as well as representatives and heads of government agencies fanning out to several regions across the country bringing the services of their respective sectors to the people in order to better address their issues.
