Leading by example – President Ali and Ministers take COVID-19 test

 Leading by example, His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, had himself tested by Health Authorities for COVID-19.

In a short video message on Wednesday, His Excellency announced that Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Hugh Todd, had notified him that he had been in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 and subsequently got tested. The Minister’s test returned positive.

The President then encouraged all his ministers to be tested and to work remotely until the results are made available.

Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. We urge citizens to practice good hygiene and social or physical distancing also adhere to the guidelines provided by the Ministry of Health, Guyana.
