Learning Channel launches ‘Fun and Facts’ TV series

(June 12, 2018)- The Ministry of Education’s (MoE) Learning Channel located in the compound of the National Centre for Research Development (NCERD), on June 1, 2018 launched a new television series titled ‘Fun Facts’.

‘Fun Facts’ is a series of locally produced Social Studies, primary level curriculum-based, educational television programmes intended to promote fun learning through play. The series incorporate non-traditional methods of revision and peer learning. As the name suggests, children literally have fun playing traditional outdoor games, while giving facts on specified topics. These programmes are broadcasted every weekend at 12 noon – both Saturdays and Sundays.

At the official launch, the children who participated enjoyed play-back sessions and were awarded Certificates of Participation for their work in training and recording sessions during school holidays in 2017. Fifteen Grade Six pupils attended the Learning Channel’s ED-TV Camp 2017. These students were the presenters and actors.  Training and recordings were done in the studio and the Botanical Gardens.

A total of eight programmes were recorded for season one of Fun Facts, featuring topics such as General Information about Guyana, Guyana’s Continental Neighbours, Counties of Guyana, the Commonwealth, the United Nations, and Guyana’s Administrative Regions.
