Leguan CPG revamped to aid crime fight

The Leguan Community Policing Group (CPG) has been revamped to build a safer community in keeping with the mandate given by Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Robeson Benn to reactivate community activism to reduce crime.

The Leguan CPG, which falls within the purview of the Community Policing Division Three, has 65 members.

Public Relations Officer, Mr. Dave Danny said other issues prompted the overhauling of the CPG.

“One of the main reasons Leguan’s CPG was revamped was because it has been dormant prior to the new constituted formations, COVID-19 and other social economic issues,” he said.

The Leguan CPG has been on high alert since a recent escapee from the Lusignan Prison hails from Goed Intent on the island.

Last month, Minister Benn, launched the reconstituted CPGs with the new focus to rebuild, increase membership, and regain trust within communities to prevent crime. CPGs serve as the link between the community and police officers.

The Ministry also aims to boost the capacity of CPGs by providing much-needed equipment. It recently handed over an aluminium boat powered by a 40-horsepower engine to the Community Policing Division Three.

Minister Benn explained that the boat will traverse between Leguan and Wakenaam to reinvigorate the communities’ safety and improve confidence on all sides.

Joint patrols between the GPF and CPG will continue across all divisions.
