Lethem Public Market tarmac soon to be completed

Construction of the tarmac of the Lethem Public Market is ongoing and expected to be completed in time for the Lethem Town Week on October 14-20.

Deputy Mayor, Maxine Welch-Hendricks said the municipality is working to ensure that work will be completed within a timely fashion. “They (workers) have already dug out the foundation however works were stalled due to the rainy season especially with our flooding situation but they have since resumed and set to be completed before town week begins.”

The Deputy Mayor said that the municipality is also currently in the process of installing a pavilion to house spectators and floodlights at the Tabatinga Sports Complex. Welch-Hendricks added that the concrete fence has been erected around the ground, whilst an internal fence to protect spectators is also in the process of being built. This includes the construction of a small complex to be used for functions such as weddings.

During the 2018 National Budget, the region was allocated $2.37Billion, of this $234.2Million, was for regional administration and finance; $329.4Million for public infrastructure; $1.16Million for education; $563.6Million for health services; and $83.8Million for agriculture.

The second annual Town Week will be held under the theme “Celebrating transformation, diversity and uniqueness in 2018”.
