as Township obeys social distancing guidelines

Ensuring that its highly anticipated 50th anniversary does not go unobserved due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Linden Municipality is celebrating its Town Week 2020 online.

“Since it is our 50th anniversary, we did not want to let it go unnoticed Therfore, those events that can be hosted virtually, will. We want persons to enjoy it from their homes,” Linden Mayor, Waneka Arrindell told DPI today.

Among the calendar of activities, on Friday, May 1, the township will be entertained by ‘Reggae on the river,’ a production which will be facilitated from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm on Facebook and 104.3 Power FM, by the Rastafarian community in the mining town.

Also, on Friday the council will be hosting a black and gold colour party from 8:00pm to 12:00 am, on Zoom, Facebook and 104.3 Power FM.

On May 2, there will be an all-black party from 8:00pm to midnight on the same social media platforms.

An online church service will be held on Sunday, May 3 by the Praise Tabernacle Assembly of God Church at 9:30am, while the international night is set for Monday, May 4 at 8:00pm to 12:00am.

Mayor Arrindell said the municipality is hoping to launch an essay competition on Wednesday, however this year there will be a twist.

“They will read the essay for us via Zoom or Facebook and persons will be able to vote. We are facilitating this activity in two categories ages 11 to 13 and 14 to 16,” Mayor Arrindell disclosed.

Also, among the activities is the distribution of hampers to 300 senior residents of the township.
