Linking communities
–M&CC commissions two bridges

Recognising that accessibility is important, the Mayor and City Council commissioned two bridges in Constituency 14, Ruimveldt Industrial Estate–South Ruimveldt Gardens. The bridges link South Ruimveldt Gardens to Roxanne Burnham Gardens and Roxanne Burnham Gardens to Rasville and cost $535,000 and $13.5Million respectively.
Residents of the communities have welcomed the developments, in particular, the bridge linking South Ruimveldt Gardens to Roxanne Burnham Gardens which is a first for the area.
Sister Penda Guyan who has resided in the constituency almost all her life is delighted to have the infrastructural development in her community. “You can see already the impact the it has because before residents had to go all the way around before they could get across, so this is the best thing that could have happened in a very long time and we are very happy,” She added “people can now get from Roxanne Burnham Gardens to South without having to go all the way around… so this is a necessary pathway, it is phenomenal.”
Bryan Dummett another resident of the constituency referring to the bridge linking Roxanne Burnham Gardens to Rasville said “… We like the development and we are looking forward to more in our community.”
Councillor of the Constituency Denroy Tudor noted that the two bridges will provide ease of access to the residents in the community, in particular, the structure that links South Ruimveldt Gardens to Roxanne Burnham Gardens. Tudor said it provides a safe way for students to get into either community without using the busy Mandela Avenue.
Tudor also observed that there is more to be done in the communities and noted that with the support of the residents “much more will be accomplished.”
The commissioning of the bridges is part of the government’s vision of linking and creating safe communities. With that, the M&CC has built and rehabilitated several bridges across the city.
