Local Government Ministry joins the fight against breast cancer
The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development stands in solidarity in the fight against breast cancer and has demonstrated its support with a tree-planting exercise at its Kingston head office.
Ministers, Hon. Nigel Dharamlall, Hon. Anand Persaud and their staff planted two Mussaenda flower plants in their compound yesterday.
Minister Dharamlall said the Ministry is happy to participate in raising awareness about breast cancer.
“We are in solidarity with those who have been afflicted, as well as those who are now recovering, and especially families who have to go through this ordeal of having to take care of patients affected by cancer,” he said.
Minister Dharamlall also expressed his gratitude to his hardworking staff who made the activity possible.
He added that while the world is still searching for a cure, “Our ministry is heavily invested in communities and the lives of people on a daily basis, so we see it as our role to also participate in solidarity with all those who are affected.”
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual global campaign to increase awareness of the disease and to advocate for early detection to save lives.
The World Health Organization has stated that breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. While the disease is more prevalent in women, men can also be affected.
