Lower Corentyne Secondary School undergoing renovation

The more than 300 students of the Lower Corentyne Secondary School will be welcomed in more conducive and comfortable classrooms when the new school term begins in September. Rehabilitation, expansion and maintenance works are currently ongoing at the Rose Hall, Region Six institution.

Principal of the institution, Paul La Cruz told the Government Information Agency (GINA) in an invited comment that during the current holiday period, works are  to be  carried out on all parts of the school complex. The Head Teacher reported that the Information Communication Technology (ICT) lab is currently being rehabilitated and extended to facilitate more students

“The overseas alumni who has been a regular contributor to the school, they have provided us with an AC unit which will be installed in the computer lab which is currently under construction, and a heavy-duty photocopy machine which should be here shortly,” he said.

Currently the school’s ICT lab has 19 computers and the principal said with the expansion of the lab, it is anticipated that more computers will be provided. Meanwhile other maintenance works on the building and surroundings are being undertaken by the Ministry of Education through the Region Six Education Department.

“The electricity problem that we had for quite some time has been fixed, our plumbing system has been repaired, our electrical system has been rectified maybe to 80 percent and three- quarters of the fence is being constructed.”

The lower Corentyne Secondary School catchment area is from Fyrish to Port Mourant and currently has an enrollment of 333 students.
