Newly appointed Regional Executive Officer (REO) of the Pomeroon/Supenaam Region Two, Denis Jaikaran is promising the people of the region massive infrastructural improvements that will benefit them, both directly and indirectly.
In an interview with the Department of Public Information (DPI), REO Jaikaran noted that he is currently in the process of visiting every community within the region, including the many Indigenous settlements. These visits are to not only familiarize himself with the villages but also to gather firsthand knowledge of the issues affecting the communities.
“I believe that it is paramount, on my part, to ensure I meet the people and be familiar with the issues affecting them so that solutions can be offered to them in a timely manner. Our focus at the region is to deliver high-quality services to our people and make them satisfied at all times. We have to and must deliver the good life to our people,” Jaikaran said.
Jaikaran further noted that under the Capital Works Programme, there will be the construction of a sluice at the Charity Market Centre which will reduce flooding in the area. According to him, the residents and stallholders at the commercial area raised concerns about flooding and suggested the solution, which his engineers advised as being feasible, hence the materialization of the project. Also, a timber bridge will be constructed at the Queenstown Main Canal in keeping with the farmers’ request.
Under Public Infrastructure, the administration will construct, at the request of the people of the region, a reinforced concrete bridge at the La Union Cremation Site road, according to Jaikaran. The construction of a timber bridge across the Main Canal at Lima will also be done.
The regional administration will also be upgrading the roads at Charity Old Housing Scheme, GT&T Tower Street – Good Hope and La Union Cremation Site. The region will also be purchasing a Bitumen Distributor which will contribute to the timely and effective maintenance of secondary roads across the region.
There are also plans to extend the Adventure Nursery School and construct living quarters at the Kabakaburi Primary School and St. Monica Primary School for the comfort of students and teachers.
The REO further noted that Solar Systems will be installed at the Kabakaburi, Hackney and Wakapoa Health Centers while a timber bridge with metallic rails will be constructed at Marlborough health Post. A tractor and trailer are also expected to be purchased.
“These projects are expected to be completed within the first quarter of the year and can only be delayed due to genuine reasons. They are considered urgent projects for our communities and must be done in a timely manner,” noted REO Jaikaran.
The REO has already met with all the relevant stakeholders within his region and discussed the way forward. His plans were embraced by the Mayor and Town Council of Anna Regina and all the NDCs within the Pomeroon/Supenaam Region.
