Malaysian Investors eye Health Care Sector

A high-level business delegation from Malaysia, today, met Prime Minister Moses V. Nagamootoo at the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Malaysian team comprises Dr Kenneth Eswaran, Executive Chairman of Pinehill Pacific Berhad and President of Johor Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Johor ICCI); and included Vivienne Eswaran, Director of Allgrow Capital; Venkatesh Kumar, CEO of Quantum Medical Solutions and Manicham Subramaniam, Chief Private Secretary to Executive Chairman of Pinehill Pacific Berhad and President of Johor ICCI.

Dr Eswaran had indicated interest in investing in Guyana, when he met Prime Minister Nagamootoo in Pondicherry, South India last month. The Prime Minister was at the time attending an Investment Conference that brought together persons of Tamil Heritage from Malaysia, Mauritius, South Africa, Fiji and North America. At that and previous conferences the Prime Minister invited Tamil business to visit Guyana.

Prime Minister Nagamootoo, in welcoming the delegation stressed growing opportunities for investment on the eve of Guyana becoming an oil and gas producing state.

Quantum Medicine Solutions (QMS) has interest in providing public hospitals not only with bio-medical equipment but maintenance of the equipment, on a lease basis. QMS also wants to supply a wide range of health care products, including drugs that are manufactured by creditable companies worldwide.

During their 5 day stay in Guyana, the Malaysian business team met with several Government officials, and toured the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Dr Eswaran thanked the Guyanese Prime Minister for his invitation, and assured support for the country’s effort at providing affordable and accessible health care.
