Malgre Tout-Meerzorgen NDC implements curfew

The Malgre Tout-Meer Zorgen Neighbourhood Democratic Council on the West Bank of Demerara has joined the effort to prevent the transmission of the COVID-19) pandemic.

With effect from April 1 to May 1, 2020, all restaurants and bars are instructed to operate their business from 6am to 6pm and must only provide delivery or take away services.

ā€œGymnasium, movie theatres, libraries and other recreational facilities are to be closed until further notice,ā€ an advisory issued by the Council on April 1 stated.

Hotels may remain open but are required to close their pools and spas and other sections which attract large gatherings.

Additionally, essential entities ā”€ markets, supermarkets and pharmacies are allowed to operate from 6 am to 6pm and must adhere to the Ministry of Public Healthā€™s advisory on social distancing and regular hand washing practices.

The Council has also limited gatherings at religious organisations to no more than five persons.

As of April 2, 2020, Guyana has recorded 23 confirmed coronavirus cases with one inconclusive. The amount of deaths remains at four.

Globally, in 213 countries, the total amount of confirmed cases recorded is 896,450 while the number of deaths stands at 45,526. In the Region of the Americas, there are 216,912 confirmed cases and 4565 deaths.
