DPI, Guyana, Thursday, November 7, 2019

Citizens continue to heed the call to position themselves to benefit from the budding petroleum industry. On Thursday, Parc Rayn saw a massive turn out as El Dorado Offshore Incorporated hosted a career fair for jobs within the sector.

El Dorado Offshore Inc. provides a range of international quality standard services to companies around the globe. Their services range from customs brokerage to operational ground support for international companies, manpower supply and associated services, procurement and real estate.

Human Resources Director of the company Sherry Ferrell told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that this exercise follows a similar once conducted in Linden.

“We recognised from the CVs we would have received that persons lack basic resume writing skills and also of persons visit the office to find out about the positions available, the training required and the companies we work with so we decided that it was time we hold a fair where the masses can come out,” she explained.

Over the course of the day, the scores of participants were engaged in various workshops aimed at building their capacity. They were exposed to the critical components of writing a job application, technical operations on oil rigs, among other topics.

Ferrell said that based on the feedback, they are expecting to interact with almost 1000 persons before the end of the day.

Speaking to DPI, participants at the fair expressed their appreciation for the opportunity provided.

Lynn Wilbert expressed that “it’s really great because by next year, Guyana will be producing their own oil, so I think it’s a very good initiative that they’re doing here.”

Rene Morrison, who travelled from Linden, told DPI that the event presents “a great opportunity” for youths who are seeking employment in the sector.

Some of the other companies present at the career fair included SMB Offshore, Stenna Drilling, NALCO Champion Guyana Inc., RelyOnNutec, among others.

Representatives from these companies were keen to contribute to local content in Guyana.

It was disclosed that plans are in the pipelines to take the career fair to other parts of the country with Berbice being the next stop.
