Members for new NSC board being vetted
− National Sports Policy at consultation phase
Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Hon. Charles Ramson Jr., said members for a National Sports Commission (NSC) board are still being vetted.
He addressed the matter during a visit to Agricola on Saturday. The NSC expired in August 2019, one year before the PPP/C Government came into office.
“As it relates to the Sports Commission, we had gone through a number of variations for persons, it’s something that the Cabinet is paying attention to. We are also monitoring what the Sports Commission board, the commission itself, did over the last five years.”
Minister Ramson Jr. said as the person tasked with appointing the new board, he has to get to the bottom of why the previous board failed to function.
“If you’ve had a board that hasn’t done anything, then you’ve got to get to the bottom of why it hasn’t done anything before you start making hurried decisions about what is going to be done … the body has to be accountable.”
The Minister also addressed the National Sports Policy.
“It’s going through a very serious process of consultation. I’m also personally looking at the Sports Policy to see that it reflects the mission and the direction of the Ministry.” Today’s visit to Agricola is the Minister’s second since entering office and was in keeping with a promise to assist with drainage around the St. Ann’s Anglican Church and to rehabilitate the Evan Phillips Park, a recreational facility.
