Minister of Social Protection, Amna Ally is currently heading Guyana’s delegation at the 63rd Session on the Commission on the Status of Women. This event is being held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

Ministerial Advisor, Alicia Jerome-Reece, Foreign Service Officer III, Shiraz Mohamed, and Minister Counsellor, Trishala Persaud, are part of the delegation representing Guyana.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the United Nations’ largest gathering on gender equality and women’s rights and is the single largest forum for the UN Member States, civil society organisations, and other international actors to build consensus and commitment on policy actions on this issue.

The session, which began on March 11, is being held under the theme ‘Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and empowerment of women and girls’ and will run until March 22.

The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women. A functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by Council resolution 11 (II) of 21 June 1946.

The CSW is instrumental in promoting women’s rights, documenting the reality of women’s lives throughout the world, and shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women.
