Min Broomes honours commitment with wheelchair donation to Bartica resident

DPI, GUYANA, Sunday, August 20, 2017

Young Patrice December was bursting with joy and excitement when Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources Simona presented her with a wheel chair to improve her mobility.

December who resides in Four Miles, Bartica Housing Scheme was born with cerebral palsy. Now 23 years old, her mobility was limited when her wheelchair was broken.

December met Minister Broomes when she was distributing kites back in Easter. “She was so excited during the distribution because she wanted hers,” Minister Broomes told the Department of Public Information (DPI).

“I’m only here just living up to my word. I don’t like promise, I like to complete things and she’s a sweet darling. She makes me really happy when I see the expression on her face,” Minister Broomes told DPI.

Minister Broomes was in Bartica, her hometown, for Pork Knocker day observations. However heavy rains in the mining town postponed the celebrations.

December’s sister Patricia Hall has been her caretaker for the past four years following the death of their mother. Hall told DPI the new wheelchair will make her job easier.

“It will help a lot especially when you have to go places because if I have to go anywhere I will have to take her with me; so that will be very helpful for me, easy transportation instead of having to hoist her all the time,” she said.

Meanwhile, Minister Broomes distributed school supplies to more than 100 school children from Bartica.
