DPI, GUYANA, Sunday, June 17, 2018

Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes celebrated Father’s Day with the men of the St. Thomas More Men’s Home.

The Minister spent time with the men singing folk songs, sharing words of encouragement and presenting them with gifts.

Minister Broomes assured the men that the government has not forsaken them. “On every occasion, on every season the government holds all our comrades very, very close. You are special today.”

Minister Broomes was commended for the work she and the government have been doing to develop the country by Former Catholic Priest, Father George. “I always knew she was an outward person and that she always cared for people … I knew she was destined for big things.”

The former priest noted that Minister Broomes attended his church during her childhood years in her hometown of Bartica.

Other men expressed their confidence in Guyana’s potential given the advent of the oil and gas industry. “I think we are going to be … about the best country within South and Central America. I look forward at the development,” one gentleman told Minister Broomes.

This is the second year Minister Broomes has observed Father’s Day at the men’s home. According to her, commitment was made to spending time with the men on Father’s Day out of the love for her work and people.
