Min. Harmon donates to Achiwib

─ pledges to see community project realised

─ Ministerial Outreach in Rupununi Region continues

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, February 16, 2019

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon today visited the community of Achiwib in Deep South Rupununi in Region 9, where he met with scores of residents from the community and its satellite village Bashaizon.

While there, Minister Harmon donated a brand-new ATV to the Bashaizon community health office while the entire village of Achiwib received farming implements and sport gear.

The village representatives had submitted a formal request to the Minister of Social Cohesion for funding of the construction of bleachers for their community ground, as the village prepares to host the inter-school championships for the district next year. The village will undertake a self-help initiative once the funding is provided, to construct the bleachers themselves.

Minister Harmon committed to ensuring this request is fulfilled and the project realised.

He also visited and inspected ongoing remedial works on the villages’ Primary School which are expected to be completed by next weekend.

This visit is part of a larger outreach by 19 ministers and a number of government officials in the Rupununi Region which started on Friday, February 15 and will continue throughout Sunday, February 17.
