Min. Hughes hears grievances about NDC-related issues in Kingelly Village

Residents of the Village of Kingelly, located on the West Coast of Berbice (Region 5), will see the construction of a new bus shed in the community. The need for the facility was raised by residents with the Minister of Public Telecommunications, Hon. Catherine Hughes, who has committed to assist, during a community meeting.
Marcia Lewis, a British-Guyanese re-migrant who was part of the gathering, told the Department of Public Information (DPI) that her return to Guyana has proven worthwhile. Lewis urged residents to become more vocal about matters that affect their lives, particularly the inactivity of the PPP/C-led Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC). “I can see that this government cares about us. Seeing everything that has happened in the last few years has made me happy,” Lewis remarked.
Minister Hughes heard grievances about NDC-related issues and reminded residents of their role in demanding better for their communities and holding their regional officials accountable.
Further, she assured residents of the Coalition Government’s commitment to all its citizens.
Over the last four years, the Ministry of Public Telecommunications has equipped over 170 secondary schools and 173 primary schools across the country with internet connectivity. Additionally, scores of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Hubs have been established in every region of Guyana. The minister stressed that this is the epitome of the development of ICT enabled learning.
The community meeting at Kingelly formed part of a much larger presence of ministers visiting several villages in the Mahaica-Berbice and East Berbice-Corentyne Regions on Friday.
