DPI, Guyana, Thursday, June 28, 2018

Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence and a team from the ministry visited the mother of the two brothers who were killed in an accident on the Den Amstel Public Road, West Coast of Demerara.

The minister, who was warmly received, told the grieving mother, Jaqueline Allen-West, that the government collectively extends their sympathy to the family and offers support at this time. Allen-West expressed gratitude for the visit by the minister and her team.

On Tuesday, June 26, 2018, Jaqueline’s sons; Shemon West and Shalum Allen, were en route on a bicycle to their Fellowship home, on the West Coast of Demerara, when they met their tragic demise.

According to reports from the Police ‘D’ Division, a minibus (BVV 8882) which was travelling in a northerly direction had stopped to allow passenger to disembark. The two brothers who were proceeding behind the bus were about to pass the vehicle, when it abruptly drove off colliding with the handle bar of the bicycle. As a result of the impact the brothers fell on the southern carriageway of the road and were hit by another bus (BVV 7042) travelling in the opposite direction

Reports further indicated that one brother died on the spot while the other was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Cottage Hospital. The brothers leave to mourn their single parent-mother and two other siblings.
