Min. Norton condemns attack on New Zealand mosques

Ministry of the Presidency, Social Cohesion, Press Release – Sunday, March 17, 2019

On behalf of the Ministry of the Presidency, Department of Social Cohesion, Culture, Youth and Sport, the Honourable Minister, Dr. George Norton wishes to publicly condemn the gruesome acts of terror executed on two mosques in New Zealand on March 15, 2019.

According to reports, at least 50 persons were gunned down while they observed the sacred Friday midday prayers, better known to Muslims as ‘Jumu’ah.’

With most heavy hearts, we extend our sincerest condolences to the people of New Zealand and the Muslim community as a whole. This senseless act is no doubt an indication that more needs to be done on a global scale to curb the hate that exists among peoples. Guyana stands ready to join in this noble fight.

In the meantime, our prayers and thoughts are with the grieving families and distraught Muslims all across the world; may the souls of the fallen devotees be rewarded with Jannah (Paradise).

God knows best.
