Min. Norton visits NA Town; congratulates Council

─ Minister meets and greets residents across New Amsterdam’

─ New Amsterdam is greatly developed over the year’s –  Min. Norton

DPI, Guyana, Saturday, January 19, 2019   

Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for Youth, Culture and Sport, Dr. George Norton, yesterday made his first visit to Region 6, East Berbice Corentyne for the year 2019. He met and greeted residents in and around New Amsterdam while listening to their concerns.

Minister Norton’s first stop was at the Esplanade Park in New Amsterdam, where he met with the New Amsterdam Warriors Football team and pledged his support towards the development of the team, which also includes two female members.

Joining the minister on his meet and greet exercise was the ministry’s regional representative Shurla Scott, Mayor of New Amsterdam, Winifred Haywood and Deputy Mayor, Wayne McIntosh. Regional Executive Officer of Region 6, Kim Williams-Stephen along with several councillors from the New Amsterdam municipality were also present.

Minister Norton along with his team then ventured to the New Amsterdam market square where he met with several vendors and business owners. He discussed briefly, sport development in the region.

Meanwhile, several business owners expressed their satisfaction of having the minister on the ground to listen to their concerns and pledge his support towards further development of the region.

Minister Norton noted that the ancient town, New Amsterdam, has seen much development, over the year from his last visit.

You can sense the cleanliness of the surrounding, drainage and irrigation does not seem to be a problem any more” Norton lamented.

He further congratulated the Mayor and town council for a job well done and urged them to keep up the excellent work. He urged the residents of New Amsterdam to continue to work along with the Mayor and town council to up keep the town’s development and to take it to higher heights (beautify and clean).

The Regional Democratic Council was also given kudos for a job well done in and around the town.
