Residents of Charity, Region 2 (Pomeroon Supenaam) were assured that the clash between the community’s business day and court day will be addressed.

Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan gave this assurance during a recent meeting with the residents, at Charity Secondary School.

It was made known to Minister Ramjattan that many persons have found themselves tangled with the law due to the clash. Residents are calling for the court day to be any other day of the week, except for Monday.

Charity resident, Taryn Gomes said that the clash has been hindering businesses especially that of farmers who come to sell their produce.

“Sellers would be calling customers to buy, and if you are too loud, that is a problem for the court,” Gomes explained.

However, Minister Ramjattan stated that “it is not something that ministers cannot get involved with. We do not want to interfere, but I am certainly going to speak with [Chief Justice] Madame Justice Yonette Cummings-Edwards for the court day clashing with market day.”

With that, Gomes was pleased that the matter will at least be looked into by the minister. “I would be so happy, and I am sure that all the residents would be happy if we can have a later day for the court,” she stated.

The meeting with the residents followed the conclusion of the ‘government comes to you’ outreach in the region. The meeting allowed residents to interact directly with government ministers, to raise concerns and make suggestions.
