Youth training programmes and services offered by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will soon be improved to ensure those participating are certified to be gainfully employed.

This was according to Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Hon. Charles Ramson Jr. during a recent interview.

He told the Department of Public Information that since reviewing the Ministry’s Youth Empowerment Unit, he intends to reshape the existing youth training programmes to maximize the success rate of the department.

“Some of the training programmes offered by the Ministry exist and they will continue to exist but we (ministry) want to make those better…we want to make them more functional,” the Minister explained.

This approach, he said, is part of the ministry’s effort to assist in the development of young people across Guyana.

Last week, Minister Ramson Jr. and his team conducted a tour at the Kuru Kuru Training Centre (KKTC) to get a firsthand look at the physical conditions of the centre and to address the working environment for the staff of the institution.

Similar tours will be conducted at Vryman’s Erven Training Centre (VETC) in Region 6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) and Sophia Training Centre (STC) during this week to ascertain what needs to be taken into consideration, according to the Minister.

The Unit executes several programmes and has collaborated with facilitators from various organisations to ensure that the training provided is relevant and beneficiaries of the respective programmes could receive the requisite skills and knowledge needed to enable them to become better leaders and change agents.

It has offered programmes such as the Youth Leadership Training Programme, Agro-processing Course, Night School Programme, Financial Literacy and Small Business Training Programme among others.
