Following calls for regularisation of squatters in that community of Pouderoyen, Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman opted to walk along Swan Street, formerly known as Depo Road, as part of his outreach exercise to the community to meet with the residents.

The families who squat in and around the cemetery urged the government to look into their issue of securing house lots to allow them to move.

“My staff will take your names and contact numbers and this issue will be taken up with the Minister responsible for housing matters” the minister relayed.

As the meeting continued at the Malgre Tout Primary School, a resident, Donna Tharally spoke of improper garbage disposal, the need for road rehabilitation, drainage clearing and upgrade, and street lights in their community.

Another resident, Dwayne Melville from Middle Street, Pouderoyen spoke of his personal difficulties accessing a house lot and the worsening mosquito infestation in the area. He was advised that the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) will begin fogging soon.

Another matter that the residents said required urgent attention was drainage and garbage disposal.

Veronica Aimes, who spoke of the urgent need for street lights in the community, was assured by Minister Trotman that this would be possible in the next two weeks.

“I assure you in two weeks, you will get two new street lights in your street … just identify where you would need the poles” stated Minister Trotman who also promised to take up the issue with the Minister of Communities.

The minister also took time to relay a message from the Head of State, appreciating citizens for their prayers.

“The President thanks the people for all their prayers for his speedy recovery.”

He also stated that without a doubt, in the next 12 months there will be an election and urged residents to stay the course with the government.

“Stay with us and bear with us” he urged.
