Min. Trotman was ‘duly advised’ before signing Exxon contract

DPI, GUYANA, Thursday, February 8, 2018

Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman said he was duly advised before signing the ExxonMobil contract.

The Minister was responding to questions from the local media to weigh in on recent comments made by Presidential Advisor on Petroleum, Dr. Jan Mangal, at a University of Guyana forum. Dr. Mangal shared his comments on the contract the government signed with Exxon and its partners.

“I am a Minister, I am a Minister in a Cabinet of Ministers and before the contract was signed I was duly advised and duly instructed to sign it,” Minister Trotman said.  “In deference to the President we extend to Dr. Mangal all of the respect that is due to his office,” Minister Trotman added.

He assured that the quintet (Ministers of Natural Resources, Foreign Affairs, Business, Finance and Public Infrastructure) “continue to work”. The quintet was formed by President David Granger to review matters relevant to the oil and gas industry.
