Minister Ally noted that the Cooperative Republic of Guyana has come a long way and it is time for self-examination and reflection of the past, while at the same time looking forward to securing a much better future.

“If we are to survive as a nation let us put nation first. As we reflect on the sacrifices and contribution of our forefathers, we must reaffirm our commitment to unity. It is also imperative to note that the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought for our independence and sovereignty should never be forgotten,” Minister Ally remarked.

The Social Protection Minister related that the government is determined to put the nation first by working towards creating a prosperous and peaceful Guyana where all Guyanese can enjoy an improved quality of life.

“Guyana’s destiny can be shaped through a unified national identity and under the leadership of President David Granger. It is about respect for the common man and woman, delivering health care in every district, building roads and bridges in every town, improving electricity generation and ensuring agricultural productivity is generated,” Minister Ally explained.

Some major improvements by the government which were highlighted, include Information Communication and Technology (ICT) training for youths, establishment of ICT hubs and smart classrooms, significant increases in old age pensions and the minimum wage, improved access to potable water, upgraded roads and new passport offices.

The region’s Regional Executive Officer, Jennifer Ferriera – Dougall similarly encouraged the region to not be distracted by the current political atmosphere of the country, but rather to unite and fight to defeat the previously prevalent social ills.

“We must fight to not only discover but keep our sovereign wealth. We must fight to keep our peoples together as stated in our national motto; one people, one nation, one destiny. That destiny is to have unity and stability in Guyana,” Ferriera – Dougall explained.

She implored the residents to aggressively strive to sustain an economy that will be beneficial to all Guyanese and not some Guyanese.
