Minister Lawrence to meet Russian counterpart later this year

Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence will meet her Russian counterpart later this year as Guyana and Russian strengthen cooperation in health care.

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Guyana, Alexander Kurmaz, greeting Minister of Public Health Volda Lawrence.

Today, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Guyana, Alexander Kurmaz, paid a courtesy call on Minister Lawrence where the invitation to meet the Russian Minister of Health was extended.

Minister Lawrence said her meeting later this year will focus on utilising Russian technology in vaccination “to ensure that we can be able to up our supply” and other areas of technical cooperation.

Ambassador Kurmaz noted that Russia is known for its vaccination work over the decades. “We are producing  very high-quality vaccines against, gripe, influenza and some other diseases that are here,” he said.

The Minister said she would also like discuss Russia’s automated technology that is used in remote areas. “That is very interesting to us. They have a very robust automated system in terms of how they offer health especially in the remote villages,” Minister Lawrence added.

Guyana and the Russian Federation established formal diplomatic ties on December 17, 1970.
