Minister Patterson visits Ituni and Kwakwani

Sunday, January 27, 2019 – Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson travelled to Ituni and Kwakwani on Thursday, January 24, 2019, to consult with residents as it relates to their infrastructural and overall developmental needs in the respective communities.

Minister Patterson was accompanied by Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Annette Ferguson, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Kenneth Jordan, and Linden’s Members of Parliament Audwin Rutherford and Jermaine Figueira.

At the meeting both Ministers assured the residents of Ituni and Kwakwani that the Government remains in office and Budget 2019 is in effect. Hence, all works stipulated by the Administration will be executed as planned for the year 2019.

The residents of Ituni applauded Minister Patterson for staying true to his word in successfully rehabilitating the Linden to Ituni/Kwakwani road which previously took six (6) hours to traverse and now takes one hour and fifteen minutes.

During the public meetings, residents discussed their concerns with the Ministers and the possible solutions that can be implemented for the benefit of all residents to experience the good life that is promised to all Guyanese.

Minister Patterson advised the residents to hold the Neighbourhood Democratic Council accountable for the works to be executed under their mandate. He strongly urged the residents to let their voices be heard as a community as there is power in majority.

Minister Patterson also discussed with Kwakwani residents, possible solutions as it relates to the current generation of electricity in the community. Residents were also happy to conserve on their electricity consumption as this will reduce the cost of generation and in turn allow the community to benefit from longer periods of electricity.

They were pleased to be informed that the Guyana Energy Agency, an agent under the purview of the Ministry will be installing light-emitting diode (LEDs) or energy savers in each household for 2019.

Minister Patterson also shared the great news of receiving funds from Abu Dhabi to construct a Solar Photovoltaic Grid in Kwakwani. This is will provide the residents of Kwakwani with 24 hour electricity generation.
