Ministers Bulkan, Trotman spread Christmas cheer in Region Eight –distribute over 1000 gifts

GINA, GUYANA, Friday, December 16, 2016

In the spirit of Christmas, and the tradition of giving, Government has been spreading  festive cheer. The President, Prime Minister and Ministers of Government have been  visiting the Regions, hosting Christmas parties and distributing gifts to children.

The exercise was today taken to Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) where two separate  Christmas parties  were held, and gifts distributed to over 1000 children of Tumatumari, Micobie, Campbelltown and other surrounding areas in the region.

Minister of Natural Resources Raphael Trotman and a team from the Ministry, met with and hosted the students at a Christmas party in Campbelltown, whilst Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan and Government Member of Parliament (MP) Rajcoomarie Bancroft and a team from the Communities Ministry hosted a similar exercise in Micobie.

Minister Trotman explained that the parties are in keeping with the Government’s policy of giving back, particularly at this joyous season. “This year, we thought that we would come into a community that is critical to Guyana’s development because from here we get not only resources…but we also get young people who will build Guyana in the future,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile, over at his engagement, Minister Bulkan explained that last year, at this same time he and MP Bancroft were in the Region and held a Christmas party for the children of Mahdia Nursery School, as well as the Campbelltown Nursery and Primary Schools. “This year we thought that we would come and have a similar activity in your special village of Micobie and also to have the pleasure of the children of El Paso and Tumatumari,” Minister Bulkan said.

Minister Bulkan also urged the children to “stay in school,” noting that nothing is more important than education and that is the only vehicle through which one can develop oneself. “Do well in school and you will do well in life,” the Minister urged.

The Ministers each also extended season’s greetings to the children on behalf of President David Granger, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and members of the Cabinet.
