Ministry monitoring Siparuta as 30 COVID-19 cases recorded

The Ministry of Health is continuing to monitor Siparuta village, East Berbice-Corentyne (Region Six) as 30 COVID-19 cases have been recorded there.

Minister Hon. Dr Frank Anthony made this disclosure in his COVID-19 update today. Monitoring will also be conducted in nearby Orealla village.

“Over the last three to four days, we’ve had medical teams from Region Six going into Orealla and Siparuta, working with the community and talking to the Village Council to try to help them understand the precautionary measures that should be taken,” Dr. Anthony said.

The Minister noted that more tests would also be administered in the village. An assessment will also be done to determine if a lockdown is necessary.

Meanwhile, the number of cases in St. Cuthbert’s Mission continues to decline and is now at 71, with a further reduction expected by the end of the week.

“These are people who would have been under observation over the last five to 10 days. Once they meet 10 days and they remain asymptomatic, then they are discharged.”

The Ministry’s team continues to monitor the community and educate the residents on the importance of staying safe.
