Ministry of Natural Resources fostering better relationships with miners

─ plans to host open days

DPI, Guyana, Friday, January 11, 2019

Minister within the Ministry of Natural Resources, Simona Broomes said that the ministry is looking to foster better relationships with miners and mining communities.

During a recent meeting in Bartica, the minister told Regional Chairman of Cuyuni Mazaruni, Region Seven, Gordon Bradford that more will be done to facilitate proper communication at the regional and township level.

“I will communicate at a higher level to have a synergy here and once things are happening in the region or township it must be brought to the attention of the local authority,” Minister Broomes assured.

She disclosed that an ‘open day’ will be held in Bartica on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the mine station in Bartica. The aim of the open day is to facilitate miners and stakeholders in the industry in an effort to encourage interaction with technical persons and managers. It is hoped that this will create an atmosphere to have concerns raised and views heard.

A similar event will be held in Georgetown on Wednesday, January 16 while there are plans to duplicate same in other areas around the country.

“We will be going throughout the country to have open days giving miners a chance to come if they are concerned,” Minister Broomes noted.
