“We have been able to point them to the application, and so most of them have left here satisfied,” Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr Karen Cummings.

Today, as hundreds attended the Region 5 government outreach, many young people took the opportunity to enrol in the various training programmes provided by the Health Education Services Department organised by the Ministry of Public Health.

Most of these applicants were young women seeking opportunities in the medical field.

For Nicola Angel, the service she received from the ministry at the outreach, will soon enable her to open doors to new opportunities. Angel’s husband died three years ago and leaving her to provide for three children. She has since been looking for a decent job. She shared that since learning about the training programmes offered in Health Services by the ministry, she has made several attempts to enrol; however, these proved futile until today. She met with the Ministry of Public Health’s team at the outreach who assisted her with her applications and qualifications for the programme. “My experience here was great because I was able to get some positive answers and [that] is what I was looking forward to,” she said.

In June, Angel will be starting her training in Patient Care Assistance.

Twenty-one-year-old, Kweslyn Porter, was also able to receive assistance in enrolling for the Health Service training. “I feel very relaxed now because I have been trying for two years now to get into the Patient Care Programme and I was not able to receive a call from [those who collected the application]. Everybody was looked after equally here, and there was no ups and down so I would advise others to at least come and see for themselves.”

“Persons need jobs especially the youth in their 20s. We have been able to point them to application and the Regional Health Officer will help to advance those cases so that they’ll be able to get jobs Patient Care Assistance, and so most of them have left here satisfied,” Minister Cummings noted.
