Moco Moco welcomes Min. Ally

― $22M well commissioned

―200 residents now enjoy potable water

― playground gets LED lights

― Roman Catholic church gets a facelift and to soon be tiled

The community engagement began with a church service at the Moco Moco, Roman Catholic Church located in Moco Moco Village, Region 9. During the service, Hon. Amna Ally, Minister of Social Protection, who participated in the mass received commendation for the rehabilitation works that were done to the church.

According to Pastor William Ramsaran, service at the church is now much more comfortable. “Minister, I pause this ceremony to acknowledge your presence and thank you for the rehabilitation done to our church. We now have a more comfortable church service,” he noted.

In acknowledgement, Minister Ally indicated to the Pastor and congregation that the Region 9 Coalition’s support group will soon tile the floor of the church. The announcement was met with loud applause.

After the church service, everyone proceeded to the Moco Moco Primary School for the formal meeting with Minister Ally. Accompanying her were Managing Director of Guyana Water Incorporated, Dr. Richard Van West-Charles and Toshao James George.

Minister Ally, in her presentation, noted that the development occurring in Moco Moco is birthed out of regular communication with the community.

“We, as your government, do not believe in sitting down in Georgetown. For us to develop communities and to know what is needed, we must visit these communities, and that is why we are here in your community. It is activities like these that have allowed us to deliver the high-powered LED lights for your playground. You asked for that, and we delivered,” Minister Ally noted.

Another request for potable water was also delivered. In his remarks to the community, Dr. Van West-Charles noted that the project has attracted a cost of $22M.

“This project has a cost of $22M and saw a well drilled to a depth of 150 metres. Pipelines were installed covering a distance of 5.5km and all homes within that parameter have potable water in their homes. About 200 residents will benefit. The operation of this project is powered by the Linden Power Company and water is also supplied to the schools and health post within Moco Moco,” Dr. Van West-Charles explained.

Special mention was also made about the Block Making economic venture that is in operation at Moco Moco. This undertaking became operable under the Sustainable Livelihood Entrepreneurship Development (SLED) Programme through the Ministry of Social Protection and access to free internet service via e-Government, Ministry of Public Telecommunications.

Toshao James George, in delivering words of appreciation, noted that the APNU+AFC Coalition Government is delivering to Moco Moco and  had asked that his community will deliver to the government. “This government is delivering to us, and we must deliver back. We love the calls for cohesion, we are enjoying all the services being made available We thank you, Minister Ally, and please convey to How Excellency, President David Granger that Moco Moco loves him,” Toshao George noted.

Minister Ally, in closing, donated care packages to all the villagers of Moco Moco.
